Plant Walks

Bringing community together through traditional polyphonic singing. This full-day, drop-in workshop will include Balkan, Ukrainian, Lithuanian and Finnish singing. Other languages may be added. If you have a song to share, please bring it!

Let’s connect through the act of stitching in community!
In this session we will explore embroidery as a medium for sharing blessings. Simple and fun embroidery techniques will be taught, and we'll share symbols, colours, and words that hold spiritual and cultural meaning to us. Bring ideas from your ancestral heritage and lived experience to share!
This drop-in communal craft session will be open throughout the day. With mutual inspiration we'll work to create a communal bunting. Suitable for all experience levels and ages, everyone can participate. (Expert embroiderers are welcome too, we can learn from you as well!)
Community Blessing Embroidery Project

At this all-day, all-ages drop-in workshop, participants will make their own small geometrical mobile from rye straw, and also contribute to a larger community-made straw structure as a blessing for the Folk Camp space and people.
Straw Mobiles: Pavuks, Sodas, Pajak, Puzur, Himmel, are found across the Nordic, Baltic and Eastern regions of Europe. In each region they held spiritual significance and blessings in calendar and family celebrations. This workshop will highlight the Lithuanian ”Šiaudinis Sodas” (straw garden) tradition.Straw Mobiles

Embodied Rhythm

Drawing on techniques such as body percussion, stomping patterns, unique phrases, the spoken 'konnakkol' system of Carnatic percussion, and spoken word poetry, you will be lead through a variety of helpful and interesting ways of embodying and deeply feeling / understanding rhythms and polyrhythms in various time signatures (3/4, 4/4, 5/4 and 7/8) which feature heavily in traditional tunes and folk dances from around the world.
