Learn Traditional Carols Together.
Tuesday evenings from 7 to 9 pm (Nov 04 - Jan 13)
Registration is now closed, if you have previously signed up, please reach out via email.
Kosa Koliadnyky are Ukrainian carollers composed of members from the Kosa Choir and the wider Kosa Kolektiv community. Each winter, they come together to continue the ancient tradition of Koliada, which refers to the period from Christmas to Epiphany and encompasses various Slavic winter holiday rituals. The carollers visit homes, businesses and gatherings in the city, sharing traditional Ukrainian carols and blessings and even bringing a symbolic Koza (goat) to spread joy and prosperity during the Christmas and New Year season.
This year, the Kosa Carolling troupe will meet at Hart House to rehearse their repertoire. They invite all students who would like to join! Come learn beautiful traditional carols, improve your singing and performance skills, and experience ancient folk customs!
You could even join us on our annual holiday rounds in “the village” : www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWotVLYtZSQ
We gratefully acknowledge the support of Hart House & the Ukrainian Credit Union Ltd. for this program.
You do not need prior knowledge of Ukrainian to participate; nor ability to read sheet music (we will be learning by ear, with transliterated lyric sheets). Some prior singing experience is helpful, and the ability to sing harmonies with others.
Feel free to email kosasinging@gmail.com with any questions.
This workshop is part of the Talking Walls series connected with the Kosa exhibition at Hart House, running Nov-Feb. For the full program listing see the Hart House website.
Hart House, a centre for experiential learning at the University of Toronto, has served as a gathering place since 1919. Located in a historic neo-Gothic building, it offers space for arts, dialogue, wellness, and community engagement, welcoming students and the broader public year-round.
